Day 3 - Shattered Peace

Morning came as I was woken up by another man sleeping in the barn. He and his family was spending the night as well before getting ready to head out. We chatted a bit and I found out his name was Kenny  His family was wanting to head out to Fort Lauderdale - he introduced me to his son ducky and his wife shortly after. I ended up chatting with his wife before heading off to see if Kenny needed some help with his vehicle, and found out that she was a practising veterinarian. They managed to escape Atlanta, barely, by doing and seeing things they never wanted to. I cannot comprehend what they saw or did, but I did not push the subject. I left Clementine with her while I went off to help around the farm.

I slowly wandered off and met up with Kenny - Looking as though he was having some troubles with that old machine of his, I offered to lend a hand. He apparently didn't need any, but we got to talking and I found out that he is a commercial fisherman and has a sizable boat he could use if things got too sketchy. After chatting up about our possible options and directions, I felt that I had been useless enough and headed off to find Shawn at the back of the property fortifying the fence.

I slowly walked up to Shawn and noticed the boy on the tractor playing around. I guess Kenny was right, the boy is a little special. As I approached Shawn, while he was on his knees hammering in some sheet metal, I realized my leg was feeling better - that old man Hershel really helped out. Shawn and I got to talking about the days ahead while I cut some lumber for the fence. He is a good kid, and I owe him my life. I seemed to supply enough lumber for the time being and was asked to help out Hershel.

I ended up going full circle on the farm to help out Hershel. Hell, I toured that whole farmstead and I can't for the life of me remember what it looked like. Far to much shit has happened during this past day that I can't seem to remember where I was, what it looked like, or who I met. Hopefully I can adapt. I need to pay more attention, dazing off will get me or someone killed. As I was saying, I met up with Hershel in the barn and thought I could help out there. The old man didn't want me helping, in fact, he peppered me with so many questions I didn't know what to answer first. Hell I can't even remember the questions he asked, or the advice he gave afterword - all I do remember is hearing the tractor roar up and a cry for help.

I ran as fast as I could to help out while Hershel bolted to grab the gun. I found Shawn on the ground calling out for help while walkers started to attack the barricades to attack the boy and Shawn. As I got closer, I realized the tractor was on Shawn's leg, stupid ass boy shouldn't have been trying to turn on the tractor. In a quick panicked decision, I ran towards Shawn and tried to wrench him free, neither Shawn nor the tractor would budge. I tried to fend off the walkers with my bare hands, but it was too late. They broke through the barrier and fell upon Shawn like starving wolves to a sheep. I didn't know what to do until I heard gunshots. I turned to find Hershel running and shooting and ended up killing the walkers - but it was too late. Poor Shawn was dead in a few seconds.

Through the arguing, I found out that Kenny also came running when he heard the cried, but instead of helping, he grabbed his dumb boy and ran away, leaving Shawn to his demise while I desperately tried to save him. If Kenny only lent me a hand after grabbing his boy, Shawn might still be here.

Hershel thanked me for trying to help, but he did not want cowards on his farm and demanded Kenny and his family to leave right away. As this was my only ride, I opted to join Kenny  thanked Hershel and headed off the farmstead and toward Macon...
